My Story - How it all began!

'PEBBLES'

Pebbles is my very precious, first ever lovebird.

MY STORY -
It all began with a single standard peach faced lovebird named Pebbles. I purchased Pebbles from a local pet shop, who informed me she was semi tame, 'oh was she indeed'!

It took me nearly a year and many bitten fingers, with great patience and persistence, until finally she become fully hand tame. It was only then that my passion for lovebirds developed. I have taken Pebbles on many holidays. She has always enjoyed traveling in the car where she will sit on my shoulders and join in when we sing along to the radio, nodding and dancing along to the music. Pebbles has travelled all over the country over the past years. Her favourite passion is riding around on my shoulders or just simply snuggling in.

Pebbles was raised alone as I purchased her as a single lovebird, as Pebbles approachd maturity, she became very interested in my husband and certain other male visitors that came to our house.

Pebbles soon began to lay the odd egg or two whenever she could. It was clear to see that she was becoming very broody so I tried her with various prospective partners (cock lovebirds), but to no avail, Pebbles just wasn’t interested in any of them in the least.

Pebbles continued flirting with the male members of my family and continued to lay more eggs, it was obvious that she wanted to raise a family of her own.

One day I decided to intervene and seek a fertile egg from a donor parrot and exchange this egg with one of her unfertile eggs.

Pebbles was delighted and to my amazement she became a great foster parent.

Since then (one egg at a time), Pebbles successfully raised a number of different species of parrot varying from a small budgie up to a plum-head parakeet! She enjoyed sitting on eggs so much, that she even took to incubating her favourite ping-pong ball!

Oh, she was so proud to show everyone her new babies, then.........

The day finally came when Pebbles FELL IN LOVE phew..........
Pebbles had now found 'true love' of her own kind.

We named Pebbles's new love 'Perky'. Perky is an adorable dutch Pied blue lovebird.

Pebbles and Perky then produced young of their own, however due to Pebbles's age of 8 years young at the time, she only laid a couple of eggs each time.

The first babies were named Kisses and Cuddles, then a few months later along came Tiger, we call Tiger 'The Broach', as he always wants to cling on to you and appears to be stuck fast!

These little gems are an absolute delight.

Cuddles is a girl - she is a Dutch Blue.
Kisses is a boy - looks just like mum, a standard Green.
Tiger is boy - he is a pied dutch and looks just like his Dad!

NO MORE BABIES FOR PEBBLES - it's Granny time now!
As Pebbles is by far 'no spring chicken now', I am trying to encourage her to call her maternal years a day.
Maybe she can enjoy being a grand-parent instead!
